<Does anyone know of a formula that can be used to convert the L*a*b*
readings from measurements of, say, solid CMYK patches from a press
sheet
and convert the readings to the CMYK densities? In other words, a
method of
using a handheld spectrophotometer as a densitometer.>
Bruce Lindbloom's site has a spectral calculator to determine density
from spectral data, but I don't know of a formula to get density from
Lab. If you have the Eye-One, you can use MeasureTool's Spot Measurement
feature to toggle between colorimetric and desitometric readings.
