Morning,
I have been working on profiling an Imacon Ixpress digital back for a little
while. Most recently, testing ColorEyes 20/20 using the back. As most of you
know who have ever attempted to profile a back, getting a perfect photo (if
that's possible) of the target takes hours of work.
My setup - Contax 645 using the Ixpress 384 multi-shot back. That's the 16MP
back from Imacon / Hasselblad for those who aren't familiar.
We created a few profiles, one for each lens, and then one for each lens and
polarizer combination. There is some debate whether you need to create a
profile for each - comments?
The result from ColorEyes is a LAB input profile. In FlexColor, the
application that runs the digital backs, the PCS is XYZ. First off, would
using a LAB input profile instead of XYZ cause any problems. We have noticed
some odd behaviour in the three-quarter to highlights using the profile.
Additionally, neutralizing using the CE input profile results in strange
behaviour - strange in that you can never truly neutralize based on a grey
target (Gretag test chart for example).
I'm certainly no expert in Color Management, but I know enough to be
dangerous. I have been calibrating and profiling scanners, monitors and ink
jet printers for years using ProfileMaker Pro with an Eye-One. ColorEyes is
purported to still be the leader when it comes to backs.
TIA
