Now wait a minute, what? That just sounds like voodoo to me.
I've never heard of anything that causes "corrupt" preferences.
Maybe you want to look at this then www.macintouch.com
Call it what you want. I do know that the fix I linked to corrected
whatever the problem was for several folks who were experiencing the
same exact symptoms that Doreen describes. And Jason Sewell the guy who
was savvy enough to figure it out calls it a corrupted preferences.

There are
third party applications that don't set the display profile correctly,
and sometimes problems with the luts not being loaded, but these things
can be addressed by using the System Preferences app.
I'm all ears. I would very much like to know what I could have done in
System preferences to fix this. It would have been highly preferable to
the Archive and Install route. I'm sure Doreen would like to know too.
recommends a reinstall simply because they can't be there to examine
your system and it's the easiest way back to a known state...that
doesn't mean that's the only way to fix it.
But it's an AWFUL painful ordeal to get back to 10.3.7 when you have to
go all the way back to your 10.2.8 CDs because your Powerbook happened
to ship with 10.3 "upgrade" CDs that won't work for archive and
install.
When you're comparing
Photoshop behavior to Preview behavior keep in mind the Photoshop has a
lot of variables, not only in number of preferences but in possible
user actions.
I am very confident in my ability to correctly configure and use PS and
can count on it to provide a properly color managed view. I cannot say
that about the Apple Apps.
