No one can say for sure. I happen to make the targets for Hutchcolor, and
Don has a few comments on his web site about the question. He also offers a
re-calibration service. Suffice it to say that a few years of good life
should be expected, but mileage will vary depending on so many variables
that it's impossible to really predict. You could kill a target in a few
days if you tried hard enough.
If you believe Henry Wilhelm's predictions, you might assume a half a
century lifespan for a Fuji reflective target, but that predicts the time
before a major change (2/3 of a stop) occurs, and for our purposes, it would
be useless long before that. Changes literally begin immediately after
production.
The good news is that Don has re-measured targets several years after their
first calibrations and found very little change, but I wouldn't guarantee
that and I wouldn't expect the values to be valid for as much as ten years.
Five years might be a good number if one is careful. Keep them dry, cool and
in the dark and never leave them on the light box.

What's the accepted wisdom on how often to replace IT8 targets (both
reflective and transmissive) that are kept in dark storage? Thanks.
