Switching to another RGB won't help the purple issue.
Retouchers have long understood that blue areas of SWOPv2 separations
sent to SWOP certified densitometric proofing devices (PolaProof,
Approval, whatever) become purple. We have spent countless hours
manually correcting the issue as it arises.
The popular explanation is that SWOPv2 profile itself is somehow
defective. However, it depends on what you're going to hang your
color management hat on. Will it be the PolaProof? The MatchPrint?
The WaterProof (shudder). The list goes on and on.
However, if we send the same separation to a colormetric proofing
device (a well linerized inkjet with SWOPv2 input profile at RIP) we
will see that the blue areas will stay blue, just like it appears on
the monitor, just like color management says it is supposed to work.
After many hours of studying SWOPv2, SWOP06 and profiles custom
created from web offset presses, I am convinced that the SWOPv2 based
on the TR001 spec is pretty darned good.
