Color Bars on Inkjet Proofs

Some further notes on this thread.

I was measuring the colors on an ISO-12747-7 control strip yesterday and,
boy, was I pleased with the results. The average dEab between the Control
Strip colors and the Reference values was under 0.50.

Granted, that difference could be interpreted in many ways.

The traceability of the instrument, the particular inkjet media being used,
the printer's inks, all factors contributing to the actual color. But one
thing is sure, 0.50 dE would give anyone some level of confidence in the
proof's color, undoubtely. Especially if we are to buy into the new SWOP
"proof by numbers" model -- that's the game all certified proofing vendors
are playing anyway.

To me, the most important benefit of using a common control strip like the
ISO-12747-7 on a proof is to 'open' the proof's colors to analysis, applying
a spectro to the patches and verify the proof's conformance to some
