That would be why Spyder3Elite (and Spyder2Pro before it) measure your
ambient light, tell you what level its at, and assist you in adjusting your ambient
light, or your calibration target values, to assure that both the whitepoint,
and the white luminance, are appropriate to your room luminance levels, and
that your room luminance is an appropriate level in general. A single fixed
standard, designed for CRT luminance levels, is not very useful to many computer
users.
