Ken,

Have a look at this report I did with Roger Breton a few years ago.
http://www.babelcolor.com/download/Light_under_control_2005-11-08.pdf

I have not made a detailed study but the output seems to be dependant on the lamp fixture (some light escapes from the bulb sides and is then reflected back, so the fixture "color" may have some influence) and electronic type (electronic or standard 12 V transformer, with the electronic transformer preferred).
Also, you can always, with a lab-type controlled-current power-supply, tweak the voltage on the high side, but with a potentially severe loss in lamp life.

Subject: Solux Bulb color temperature

Hello. This is a question about the color temperature of Solux bulbs which
we plan to use for proofing lights. There are two bulbs rated at 4700K and
5000K. We purchased the 5000K bulbs expecting the color temperature to be
fairly close to this, but when we measured it we see it is 4450K. According
to a Solux engineer, the term ³D50² in their product literature refers to
the spectral nature of the light, not the exact color temp as metered in
Kelvin degrees, that the bulbs labeled 4700K produce a ³daylight spectrum²
and that they could be expected to rate within 200K of labeled output.

I¹m just wondering what color temperatures others have seen from these
bulbs. Has anyone tried the 5000K bulbs?

Thanks!
