Peter

I don't have any experience with the CG241W, but I CAN say that the CG211 has excellent off-angle viewing. Thats why we have 10 of them! I recently had some correspondence with the guys at Chromix about the differences between the different Eizo models which you and the list might find interesting:

Can one of you outline the differences between the Eizo CG211 and the CG241W?
CG211: S-IPS panel
Widest view angle capabilities, 4:3 aspect ratio, 78% Adobe RGB, 500:1 Contrast, 1600x1200 native resolution, a little slow at refresh/ redraw, but still regarded the primary standard for higher end 'Color Critical' LCDs used for commercial print proofing. The white point is good, but tends to favor slightly yellow.

CG241W: S-PVA panel
Good but more restricted viewing angle capabilities than the CG211, 16:10 Aspect ratio, 96% Adobe RGB, 850:1 Contrast, 1920x1200 native resolution, fast, 'almost' as good as the CG211 for Color Critical viewing. The white point is a bit purer than the CG211.

I see that they are pretty comparably priced, and yet the 241 has a bigger screen and a wider gamut. What do you sacrifice to get those things?
See above:

Why is the CG221 more than double the cost of both these monitors?
Hybrid Hitachi panel made specifically for Eizo, almost 99% Adobe RGB, widest view angle dynamic of any IPS-type panel. Considered the definitive bar in high-end proofing market (remember the Sony Artisan and Barco?... this is comparable in many ways, but yet even better). The CG221's big claim to fame is that it is the definitive standard for Adobe RGB LCDs in the world (of any brand). The best. One caveat: it needs to be read by a i1Pro spectro though to be able to measure its fullest range. A Spyder3 can work ok, but an emissive spectro is best for this unit. Forget the i1d2 or the DTP-94 which are better suited for S-RGB ranges.

We recently tried a couple CG301Ws (for their bigger screens) and were appalled at the color shift with off-angle viewing. And by off- angle I mean 10-20°. The were basically useless and we returned them. Does the CG241 suffer from this?
A little, but not as much as the CG301W.
