I wouldn't dismiss the DTP94/Optix XR so quickly.

Just recently, I profiled 2 Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP LCD displays (which
employ S-PVA technology) using a DTP94 with Monaco Optix XR software in
expert mode. The resulting LUT profiles describe a gamut whose volume is
indicated by ColorThink Pro's Profile Inspector as measuring about
1,250,000, versus the 1,207,520 of the matrix-based AdobeRGB profile.

To be sure, when both are graphed in 3D, there are mismatches, but the
differences are slight, and, in places, the Dell's display profiles even
exceed AdobeRGB.

This leads me to think that the DTP94 probably does fine with displays that
offer a gamut this wide.

I have not tried the i1 Display 2 in a similar situation, so I am not sure
of its limits and capabilities with wider-gamut displays.
