Your interpretation of Eizo's white paper's conclusions appears incorrect to
me. Firstly, there is "width" and then there is "width". Gamut width is
quite a separate thing from the width of the measuring instrument's FOV
(field of view).
Additionally, from a cursory review of the white paper, it deals with the
best procedure to match two monitors to one another when one is a
narrower-gamut sRGB display and the other has a wide-gamut, roughly equal to
AdobeRGB or wider. The authors start by noticing that using a 2-degree FOV
creates a visually noticeable mismatch. Their working hypothesis, which they
proceed to document, and appears reasonable, is that results improve (i.e.,
a better match is created) when the output of both displays is measured
using a wider FOV, like the 10 degrees posited by the 1964 CIE model.
Of course, the use of a wider viewing angle does nothing to increase either
device's gamut, nor is it inherently "better" at measuring the output of
wide-gamut displays. Its advantage is just in creating a closer match
between 2 displays of markedly different gamut.
Also, let's not forget that the EyeOne Pro is quite capable of making
10-degree measurements as well, though I'm not aware of any commercial
monitor profiling software that offers the option of activating 10-degree
measurements.

display...)
