It is possible to get another keyboard to work. The problem with
present X11 is that it loads the
US keyboard by default, and it is not easy to figure out how to get it
to load the correct keymap.
What I did is to:
cd /System/Library/Keyboards
cp USA.keymapping IcantUseUSA.keymapping
cp Dansk.keymapping USA.keymapping
(of course, the Dansk won't help you, so use Deutsch.keymapping)
And, if you ever have an American keyboard, you still have the 'right'
keymapping.
There are several other ways of doing this mentioned in the archives of
this list, some of which are probably better.
This way has worked fine for me.
Cheers,
Ian

How to set on X11 a German keyboard and not the english keyboard.
Wait for the first non-beta release. The beta release only correctly
supports the US keyboard.
