Well, I just installed X11 0.2 on my PowerBook and now I'm seeing loads
of these (since I have quit and started X11 several times today, having
just installed it and started tweaking my .xinitrc). So I don't know
why they're hanging around, but they're definitely still occurring.
In the meantime, one might try 'ps ax | grep -v con-\ Z' to keep from
seeing the zombies cluttering up the display.
