database so having the change reflected in that file is moot.

Well, when I tried just the chpass command, it didn't change my shell
in NetInfo (so it didn't *actually* change my shell) - but it changed
the values in /etc/passwd. But chpass may have been updated from
10.2.8 to 10.3 (I'm using 10.2.8).
Yup. 'chpass' doesn't work prior to 10.3. It does work in 10.3.
