ya ya. before you all laugh..:-) I like my xplanet and the various
perl doo-dads lashed on to it over the years. Before Panther and Apple
X11, I was running XFree86 on 10.2.x and all was well, using
windowmaker rootless. Now it will only display in a rooted environment.
Here's what it looked somewhat like (but not as gaudy) with live data:
http://hans.ecke.ws/xplanet/
Summary
------------
Root window backgrounds only can be set/displayed when in rooted mode,
not rootless
Details
---------
On a clean install of Panther, quartz-wm, rootless, the most odd
behavior, it's "almost" rootless.
Rootless Mode
- Quartz-wm is managing the windows, X terms and such are happily
displayed with the proper borders.
- the root window background is the Apple background
- executing xplanet succeeds, but with no display on to the root window
background
Switching to rooted mode
- ctl opt A and there is xplanet on the root window background
- all X apps working as expected
Using windowmaker, same behavior.
Xsetroot same behavior.
I poked at this for quite a while... I know.. RTFM x 5 ?
thanks all!
