Oh, yeah, that's correct. Why is fink using that? It's a bug in fink
if it is. It should be using 'pkg-config xorg-server --modversion'
on osx:
$ pkg-config xorg-server --modversion
1.3.0-apple2
$ X -version
X11.app starting:
Xquartz server based on X.org Release 1.3, built on 20071203
On my linux box:
$ pkg-config xorg-server --modversion
1.4
~ $ X -version
X.Org X Server 1.4.0
Release Date: 5 September 2007
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.23-hardened-r2 x86_64
Current Operating System: Linux cid 2.6.23-hardened-r2 #1 Thu Nov 29
19:45:47 PST 2007 x86_64
Build Date: 01 December 2007 02:18:25AM
Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org
to make sure that you have the latest version.

Where are you seeing that? In X11->About X11 it says:
X11.app version 2.1.0 - X.org X11R7.2
I think he's referring to the version reported by Xquartz
$ Xquartz -version
X11.app starting:
Xquartz server based on X.org Release 1.3, built on 20071201
Cheers
