If it's anything like how it's been handled previously, any updates to
X11 will be an automatic update via Software Update; not necessarily
part of an "OS update", but something that won't have to be downloaded
separately/manually.

When this is fixed, will it go into one of the OS
updates, or will we have to download the fixed X11
separately?

Seems like your complaint is that X11.app used to
be able to act as
a launcher and now it doesn't. So now you'll have
to use the same
launcher as the rest of the OS. Or find one of
the dozens of other
launchers that could do the trick for you. If you
really hate that
idea, seems like something could be whipped up in
Applescript studio
without too much trouble...
And, just to be clear here -- the Applications menu
*should* work.
It's a bug. Hopefully this is something we can
quickly fix once I get
the source code up in a usable form in the X.org
(freedesktop.org)
repository.
