Much to my dismay after upgrading to 10.5, I found that X11 had wiped
out my prefs file.
Worse, when I tried to recreate it, I found that the most basic of
things don't seem to work. For example:
Defining "Terminal2" to be "xterm -bg black -fg white" never brings
up a terminal, and yields the following in the system log:
cinnabar.ny.zeitgeist.com % su
Password:
sh-3.2# tail -f /var/log/system.log
Oct 30 12:49:36 cinnabar login[16503]: USER_PROCESS: 16503 tty??
Oct 30 12:49:36 cinnabar login[16503]: DEAD_PROCESS: 16503 tty??
Oct 30 12:49:36 cinnabar org.x.X11[16435]: login: xterm -bg black -fg
white: No such file or directory
^C
cinnabar.ny.zeitgeist.com % which xterm
/usr/X11R6/bin/xterm
(I have /usr/X11R6/bin in my path, but the 10.5 X11 install seems to
have a link, and uses it's own internal path)
yet, run from the command line it works perfectly.
Any clue what's up...?
regards,
David Spector
