I want to thank those who posted the instructions and tips on reverting to Tiger's X11, especially the excellent <http://aaroniba.net/articles/x11-leopard.html > write-up.

Prior to this I was having multiple problems with the new X11 in Leopard. One of my projects is on OpenSUSE 10.1, and I connect to that machine via "ssh -XY". I was seeing the annoying yellow cursor issue as well as occasional (but significant) repainting problems with the OpenSUSE 10.1 apps whose displays were being sent to my Mac (Mac Pro, 3.0GHz Quad Xeon, 4GB RAM, X1900XT). When I installed Ben Byer's pre- compiled patched Xquartz, the yellow cursor was gone but I was getting frequent crashes of X11.app...

Reverting to Tiger's X11 solved these problems, and I can work on my OpenSUSE 10.1 system again!

Thanks!

I do look forward to the new X11 server, and I hope Apple gives Ben Byer's group the resources to fix these serious issues in a timely manner. Thanks too to My. Byer for patiently answering questions and giving advice on the mailing list; it makes dealing with these issues a lot easier knowing that someone knowledgeable at Apple is aware of the problems and really wants to fix them.

- Daryl
