The X server windows for VMware froze when talking over "ssh -Y" too. messages in the xterm say:

I'm running X11 (XQuartx 2.3.3.1 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple42) on OS X 10.5.7 on Quad-Core Intel Xeon. I connect to X11 remotely by 1. Open an Xterm 2. ssh -X to another box 3. run an application (vmware) on the box and connect to the X server.
Typically the application runs for many minutes or hours, and then loses connectivity with the X Server. At that point, the only recovery that I'm aware of is to restart the X server and the application.
