Interface Builder brokenness

  • Subject: Interface Builder brokenness

I seem to recall similar problems being discussed on various mailing lists, but can’t find them.

I just upgraded to Tiger (Archive and Install, default installation) and installed XCode Tools 2.0. I have since upgraded to 2.1, uninstalled, and reinstalled 2.1; the problem persists.

What happens: Interface Builder runs normally. However, there are several actions which consistently cause exceptions to be raised:
* Opening Preferences. Interface Builder->Preferences does nothing. The following
is logged:
2005-07-13 14:02:54.618 Interface Builder[921] [<NSCFDictionary 0x4b4aa0>
valueForKey:]: lookup of unknown key: 'textAttributesForNegativeValues'.
This class does not have an instance variable of the name
textAttributesForNegativeValues or _textAttributesForNegativeValues, nor a
method of the name textAttributesForNegativeValues,
_textAttributesForNegativeValues, getTextAttributesForNegativeValues, or
_getTextAttributesForNegativeValues
* Opening the QTKit palette for the first time.
2005-07-13 14:04:38.258 Interface Builder[921] [<NSCFDictionary 0x475cb50>
valueForKey:]: lookup of unknown key: 'CIAttributeDefault'. This class does
not have an instance variable of the name CIAttributeDefault or
_CIAttributeDefault, nor a method of the name CIAttributeDefault,
_CIAttributeDefault, getCIAttributeDefault, or _getCIAttributeDefault
Subsequent attempts succeed; however:
* Attempting to drag a QTMovieView to a window. When the mouse enters the window,
the drag is cancelled.
2005-07-13 14:06:09.750 Interface Builder[921] *** Canceling drag because
exception 'NSUnknownKeyException' (reason '[<NSCFDictionary 0x4cebc0>
valueForKey:]: lookup of unknown key: 'CIAttributeDefault'.
This class does not have an instance variable of the name CIAttributeDefault
or _CIAttributeDefault, nor a method of the name CIAttributeDefault,
_CIAttributeDefault, getCIAttributeDefault, or _getCIAttributeDefault') was
raised during a dragging session
* Selecting most types of view in a window.
2005-07-13 14:07:01.656 Interface Builder[921] Exception raised during
posting of notification. Ignored. exception: [<NSCFDictionary 0x476ad20>
valueForKey:]: lookup of unknown key: 'textAttributesForNegativeValues'.
This class does not have an instance variable of the name
textAttributesForNegativeValues or _textAttributesForNegativeValues, nor a
method of the name textAttributesForNegativeValues,
_textAttributesForNegativeValues, getTextAttributesForNegativeValues, or
_getTextAttributesForNegativeValues

As mentioned above, reinstallation of the tools did not help. The errors appear to be related to KVO, but it is not at all clear whether the problem is in a system framework or in IB.
