It is my experience that these same people are not typically
updating their application software. Ergo their status quo is
maintained.
We are not talking only about software updates here. People sometimes
also buy new software they did not have before because it is useful
for the tasks they perform and they may have found out about it after
getting the computer or because the software itself is new. If they
have dial-up they will probably buy that software on CD so being on
dial-up does not automatic imply people do not purchase software.
