XCode then quits. Thus it doesn't even start and display
the old projects. XCode just gives me an error message.
Is this a known bug? Is there a work-around?
No, it's not known; this is the first report.
By "old" how old do you mean? Xcode 1.5 projects? 1.2, 1.1, or earlier?
What I'd try is to open your project in the Finder with Show Package Contents, then remove everything but the "project.pbxproj" file (you don't need to trash them, just drag them onto your desktop or something). Then close the Finder window and try again to open the project in Xcode.
That would handle cases where project-specific UI customizations made in earlier versions of Xcode are not being recognized by newer Xcode. That would be a bug, and if this workaround fixes it, we'd appreciate seeing the contents you moved out.
Also make sure that Xcode works for new projects, too. If you can't open
anything in Xcode 2.0, then perhaps it wasn't installed correctly; use the /Developer/Tools/UninstallDevTools.pl script to remove the developer tools, then reinstall from the Tiger DVD Developer Tools folder.
