Strange. I'm on 10.4.1 using XCode 2.1. This is what I do:
Create new Cocoa Application.
Select the project and choose "get info"
Click the build tab, verify that the debug configuration is set,
and the Optimization Level is set to Fastest, Smallest.
Does anyone know why this would be the case?
No idea why, but I'm also seeing this.
Fastest-smallest is always being set in the Debug target of new
projects. I noticed this originally when upgrading my Xcode 2.0
installation to 2.1. But, it still occurs even after completely
removing Xcode and doing a clean install of 2.1
If you haven't already filed a bug, definitely do so.
