Client and server should, in theory, perform the same. In this respect, server has very few things that client does not. Most of what makes server different is that it comes with GUI programs to easily configure the underlying open source software that could still be used on client.

Do you have other issues with the server? For example, if you ping the server, is it still responding to pings when it isn't available for distributed compiles? Is the firewall blocking any of the packets?

tail -f /var/log/ipfw.log

I've had many issues in the past with the firewall blocking packets that I need to get through. If this is what's going on, you'll have to look at what ports and protocols (TCP/UDP) are being blocked and configure the firewall to allow those packets.

I have a machine where I am logged in and Xcode is running, on my

It should be.

After further testing, it seems to work, at least if all the machine in
question are 10.4.3 Client. My 10.4.3 Server machine seems to act a
little weird. Sometimes it's available, sometimes not. Are Client and
Server considered 'different versions' of the OS?| They are both 8F46.
