I have been affected as well. But my guess is that the keyed archiving
stuff is much more robust to that than the @encode thing (without even
mentioning the 64bit code)... Unless you have legacy archives to read.

Long story short: gcc 4.0 and gcc 3.0 disagree about the encoding
type for UInt32 and SInt32. So if you've got old data that was
archived from code compiled by 3.3, it will fail to be unarchived by
new code that was compiled with gcc 4.0 (e.g. Intel code).
I'm surprised this hasn't affected more people. Though maybe it is
widespread and people are just "fixing it" by deleting preferences.
