For example, if you have an Xcode project document (.xcodeproj,
which is
a bundle) on a computer that does not have Xcode.app, the Finder
shows
this document as a folder.
If the bundle bit is set (which Xcode doesn't do), then Finder
shows it
as a generic document icon. Much better user experience.
Is there a way to get Finder to show the document icon? For
instance including and referring to the icon in the Info.plist the
way that an app bundle handles it?
You have to use a custom icon.
/Developer/Tools/SetFile -a C some.framework
Then inside the framework folder you'll need a file named "Icon\r"
with an 'icns' resource ID -16455 and with it's invisible bit set.
