Does the "doesn't launch" problem still occur now that ZeroLink has
been abolished?
Yes -- Debug builds are single architecture and, thus, many folks have
been surprised when a non-zero-link, debug, build does not launch on a
machine of the "opposite" architecture.
Of course, with the days increasing since the last PPC machine
shipped, this is becoming less and less of an issue.
