Yeah, I'd have to agree with Rick. It'll work, and I *really*
appreciate the help and advice, but it just feels like a hack. I also
think that the behavior of the tool is really confusing -- if I drop
something in to the "Masks" view, I certainly don't expect that to be
rendered. I guess I'll log a bug on that piece of the puzzle.

metadata about a file is okay, then using 1 in your alpha later is,
