Thanks for the suggestions Markus.
I was actually performing the permissions check/repair when your
message arrived; and I tried the other suggestions you made (even
making sure to reboot between uninstalling and reinstalling the dev
tools). That did not work, nor did trying as another user.
This sure seems baffling. One step I tried yesterday I didn't mention
was booting into single-user mode, and fsck-ing the disk as well. I
figured that crashing mid-debug, I may have left the filesystem in an
inconsistent state. I guess I'll continue by installing the same
version of OSX and Xcode on another partition, and doing a fingerprint
comparison of the files that seem related to crash reporter and see if
there are any files that appear to be truncated.
