My questions (0) Is anyone using a similar config for development under Leopard and Xcode 3? (1) How is the experience?

I've used a 1.33 PowerBook with Xcode 3 and it's really painful unless your projects are tiny (text editing is unusably slow). YMMV, but I'd recommend waiting for your new machine.
