If all you're doing is writing text, Xcode is not the right tool. There's quite a great deal of "glory" in there to justify the increased resource usage. Whether there's *enough* glory to justify *this* *much* resource usage as a more complicated conversation.


If nothing else, look at it this way: I remember a time when Emacs was considered such a big program people actually got fired for launching it on a shared machine, and people said *that* "glorified text editor" was unjustifiably big. Now, with Xcode around to compare to, Emacs is positively puny!
