(1) "Xcode", not "xCode". Xcode is not an iMac. :-)

(2) Xcode is OK as a Ruby editor. It has Ruby syntax coloring, for example. But it's best when writing a Ruby-Cocoa application, since Xcode has a lot of support for Cocoa. There's even a Ruby-Cocoa application project template.

(3) The app I hear most frequently in association with Ruby is TextMate. It's even mentioned in Apple's own ADC article about Ruby on Rails, which contains a lot of information and references for how to program Ruby on Rails on a Mac:
