And your website provider may very well have svn support baked right
in already, but most likely not any of the newer fashions. I use
Dreamhost and their svn administration/access has been convenient and
flawless, a useful combination.
If you have particularly good or bad experiences with 3rd-party
subversion
gui clients, I'd love to know.

The killer Cornerstone feature for me was not letting you commit with
unversioned files in your working copy. Pre-Cornerstone I used to
embarrassingly often overlook adding new files to a repository in the
routine panic of post-deadline implementation. That's just plain
impossible to do now!
