Naively, I don't know what DRM is.
Are there particular QuickTime DRM'd codecs that I can
delete from my system, so that I can get back to developing my own code?

To be more specific, this is an attempt by Apple to deter people
from reverse-engineering DRM algorithms, and to deter programs from
extracting decoded content from protected files. I know that
QuickTime does this to the process as soon as it loads any DRM'd
content into memory.
