Hi
First of all, Apple will only ever support US English TTS. But on a related
note, would it be possible for a TTS developer to port their version of the
TTS to OS x so that it works natively and can be selected from the control
panel?
What I mean is that anyone could write a TTS for the Mac, but the problem is
making it useable through the same APIs, rathr than requiring a separate
driver for each 3rd party TTS.
For example, Viavoice, DECTalk and Sepstral all exist for Linux, and it
would be fairly simple for the developers to port them to OSX, but then
would Apple enable them to plug them into the TTS framework?
Likewise, could I write a virtual TTS that interfaced with a hardware
solution?
All these questions have a common answer - are these docs available
somewhere?
Regards, Saqib

Subject: TTS for different languages?
Hello all,
I am just looking into using TTS for the Macintosh. I've done a bit of
research, and it appears that OS X only ships with 22 North American English
voices.
I am interested in using TTS for my application, but are there any
international voices out there that will work with the Speech Manager API
(i.e. can be selectable in the Speech System Pref Pane)? I would need them
to recognize/understand international text that is French, Spanish, UK
English, German, Italian, Japanese, and/or Portuguese?
Would these voices (if they exist) be ones Apple provides or 3rd parties?
Another possible solution would be for us to license a 3rd-party TTS engine
that would have these international voices.
Any info or a direction in which to look would be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
