It is important to note that VoiceOver is not the only accessibility
client on Mac OS X. By only applying AX features when VO is running,
you are potentially locking out other accessibility clients.

Again not a good idea, and also not possible at the posix level.
We could change the name of the process at any time.
Thanks,

Hi
Just a thought, but I'm 99% sure there's POSIX calls for checking
whether a
process is running. Could you check if the screenreaderd process is
running? This would probably require poling since I don't think
there's
any notification-based APIs for this. I don't know if it'd work
but this
is certainly a try, unless I've overseen something. :-)

Dear accesibility list members,
I'd like to find out whether VoiceOver is currently active. What is
the best way to find out? I would prefer some notification to avoid
polling.
I have noticed that there's AXEnhancedUserInterface child in
AXApplication set to TRUE when VoiceOver is active but cannot find it
in headers.
Can I safely rely on this value?
Tomas
