We are having a bit of a problem implementing keyboard navigation in the DataBrowser control. In our application, the DataBrowser is filled with items representing folders and files. When the user selects (opens) a folder, our app would refill the DataBrowser control with objects in that folder. Here is a screen shot:

In the Microsoft Windows version of the app, the user would use the SPACE key to open a folder. How can we implement this keyboard navigation technique on OS X?

We need to support 10.3.9+. The app is a browser plug-in that runs in Safari and Firefox.
