Hi all, In recent iOS versions (I don't know if it's 7 or 8), a small feature has gone largely overlooked. VoiceOver can now speak what seems to be a custom string for an app badge. For instance, the App Store's badge is spoken as "n updates available", while the Mail app's is "n new messages". Is there an API for third-party developers to do this, or is it not public yet? Right now, all third-party apps that have badges are spoken as "n new items", but this isn't always the case. A calorie tracker that shows remaining calories as a badge, a weather app that shows the temperature as a badge, and so on, would all benefit from this.
My other question is similar: can developers specify what their app is called by VoiceOver, regardless of the text in their icon? That is, can what is displayed on the screen be different, so that an app can have a short name in its icon but a more descriptive one to VO users?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
