But this contradicts the Finder 9,0 dictionary.

(BTW, the Finder Scripting Guide was last modified in 1996.)

One lesson to be learned, I fear, is that reason won't help you much in
working with AppleScript syntax. Too many inconsistencies, special cases,
undocumented idiomatic expressions. Quite like a human language, I suppose.
