Leonard,
Did not find any aliases, but found some scripts in folders in the Scripts folder that were very peculiar. Perhaps they had been compiled under AS 1.5.5 when I was testing 9.1 and then when switching back to 1.4.3 were some how corrupted.
Reformat and I'm back in business. Thank you for the tip.

Check your Scripts folder to make sure that any aliases that you have in there are still valid! The delay that you describe is caused by OSA Menu asking the Mac OS to resolve an alias, and it failing to do so.
