You're correct, but that probably says as much about the industry as about
InDesign. Most of it behaved exactly the same when PostScript first came out
(it had some of the same short-comings). Sure, there's a lot to be said for
sticking with something that works; there's also a lot to be said for
keeping an open mind.

Adobe's support of scripting is patchy, but as far as I know, they've never
released an upgrade that takes scripting support backwards. That's a lot
more than I can say about Quark. Remember 4.0, 4.01, 4.02, and 4.03? And
there are things in 4.11 that haven't worked since 3.32 (and serious bugs
that have never been fixed).
I make much of my living scripting QuarkXPress, and I think it's overall a
great implementation (if unfinished). I also think InDesign lags in certain
crucial areas. But given the track records of both, it could be an
interesting comparison in a year or two.
