Interesting, that the issue that caught most reader's attention from my
original post (some totally personal opinions on the scripability of
various Apps) was Claris eMailer. Thanks to all who recommended
replacement programs.
I've only responded here to the "scriptability" topic:

You're totally correct here eMailer IS very scriptable -- the only reason
I moved it down a notch, was that at this point, I feel less inclined to
invest a great deal of time writing new scripts.

High level of support means nothing when it comes to software these days.

Point very well made, but when it comes to databases I like to hedge my
bet as much as possible. It's a bit like checking out the "Repair Index"
in Consumer Reports.
There are no guarantees, but when it comes to selecting something for
long term use, all predicters of future viability count. Unfortunately,
there's little question at this stage of eMailers future.
Like you, I expect to use eMailer till the day it no longer works.
eMailer's scriptability is one of the prime reasons I feel I can hold out
till the bitter end - at least my data will not be held hostage (can you
say "Quicken?")
