I have posted a new tip and accompanying script on The AppleScript
Sourcebook:

A new tip on using AppleScript, this one explaining the ins and outs of the
With Transaction command, implemented by only a handful of applications.
This command is an important tool to avoid problems when multiple network
users attempt to access a database simultaneously via AppleScript. The tip
is accompanied by the Transaction Ferret, a script that tells you whether an
application supports transactions and, if so, what error number it returns
when an attempt is made to access a database via AppleScript while another
transaction is already pending.
