I've been following this thread, but I'm a bit confused.

First, FM runs like molasses in the foreground; it's one app you want to
keep in the background.

Second, I never embed AppleScripts in databases. I know there are
advantages, but I don't for a variety of reasons (mainly, I'm doing the
scripts and someone else is doing the database).

Third, I'm still using 4.1.

That said, if I run a script addressed to FMP, FMP *never* comes to the
front unless I use "activate".

So I keep thinking there's something I'm missing here...
