Yeah, but to do that the spammer would have to receive all those email's
about things they weren't interested in and no one wants that.; >

I'd say the policy of requiring approval before a 3rd party makes a
searchable archive public has done a pretty good job in hampering spammers
from using this list as a source for email addresses.
