This may very well have been asked recently, but I have been perusing this
list for awhile now and can't recall if it has. Apologies in advance should
this have been been covered lately.
I have been trying a workaround with Folder Actions using Folder Actions
Plus - a freeware extension that enables Folder Actions to work on closed
folders and apparently, even via apps that save into the target folder. As
we are all aware, Folder Actions will not trigger when items are saved into
a given folder through another application.
However, as well-intentioned as this extension appears to be, it don't not
really seem to work - items saved into my target folder from PhotoShop (5.5)
rarely trigger a script (but sometimes do) and files saved into it from
Illustrator (9) occasionally trip it too.
It has been suggested to me that Folder Actions Plus is "hard" on the
system, but I was not in a position to inquire further into this "hardness."
Anyone have any ideas? And anyone know why scripts will not trigger except
when items are dragged into/out of folders? This seems so limiting! I know
I could have a script that watches my folder and on arrival moves the
item(s) to another watched folder that has the trigger script attached to
it. *That* would guarantee the script to work, but why the work around.
Anyone know? The author of Folder Actions Plus hasn't worked out why it
doesn't work through PhotoShop reliably either.
Just in case there are questions about the script itself, I have posted it
below here. The script is to screen items saved into it for their
colourspace and deal with them accordingly. Note that the skeleton of the
script was adapted from one of Sal Sagoians Folder Actions scripts. I make
no commercial gain from my adaptation, and I hope I have not transgressed
any of Apple's/Sal's copyright laws.
Thank you in advance.
