Well, perhaps, but it doesn't work just like that. If I try to drop the
.app file on the dictionary, I get

"Couldn't open the document because the file could not be found"

When I try Open from script editor's file menu, the .app is not present
in the list.

So, I hope this is not the new way.

Any other ideas?

May be you are right!
There was a crucial question I did not ask... are you running AS 1.6?
May be this is the difference.
I have 9.1, AS 1.6 and AW 6.1. I opened the dictionary going to "AppleWorks 6.app".
By the way, dropping the app in the SE icon caused an error and SE to quit!
