After several hours and phone calls with the ISP, Apple, and the reseller, I
finally called my friend who, in less than 15 minutes, solved the problem. After
making changes in the TCP/IP settings, I had to restart. No one told me that.
Also, it seems that I am only able to connect using manually configured static IP
addresses. DHCP does not work.

I was this close to sending back good hardware and losing the cable modem for DSL

It doesn't matter WHAT you know...it's WHO you know.
