Windows is having a great deal of success implementing OSA-like scripting in recent OS revisions. For example, in Adobe InDesign, we have a cross-platform scripting system in place that allows us to write core scripting code which works in both AppleScript and OLE Automation (thanks, Peter). All features operate on both platforms, but there are definite differences between the systems. OLE Automation doesn't support whose clauses or anything like them really. Instead you snag an object pointer and call it, so it's definitely more programmer oriented. Visual Basic, the primary OLE Automation scripting language, exposes a lot of this without the seeming simplicity afforded by AppleScript.
